Survodutide is an investigational GLP-1/glucagon receptor dual agonist from Boehringer Ingelheim, in Phase 3 trials for obesity and studied for metabolic liver disease. Not approved.
How it works
It combines GLP-1's appetite and glucose effects with glucagon-receptor activity thought to raise energy expenditure and act on the liver — a different pairing from tirzepatide's GLP-1/GIP.
The evidence
Trials report substantial weight loss and encouraging liver-disease (MASH) signals, but it remains investigational. As always, trial averages are not individual promises.
Safety
Predominantly gastrointestinal side effects, with metabolic monitoring given glucagon activity. Human long-term safety is still being characterized.
FAQ
QHow is it different from retatrutide?
Survodutide is a dual (GLP-1 + glucagon) agonist; retatrutide adds GIP for a triple. Different receptor mixes.
QIs it approved?
No — investigational, in Phase 3.
